Stephen Agen and Maria Steen
« on: Friday 19 August 22 11:04 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace a marriage between Stephen Agen and Maria Steen, who had a daughter Annie, born 1835 plus/minus 2 years - they moved at some time to the USA, where my currentl research is taking place, however I am hopeful of the irish connection.  Annie's place of birth is stated as Tipperary,  any help would be gratefully accepted.  Thank- you Elizabeth.

Background on previous thread for daughter Annie (Agen) Golden Park-

Are you sure Stephen and Maria actually moved to the U.S.? I can't see any mention of that in earlier topic.

Added- there are no records for 'Agen' as a surname in Ireland for births, marriages & deaths on Irish Genealogy site. I suspect the actual surname might be something like Egan.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Still fairly early on in the research, and no I have no proof that the pair moved to the USA only that the daughter was there.  Anyway thank you for your reply  Elizabeth.

When did the daughter travel to the US?
Did she remain there?
What document had the name Tipperary on it?
Did she have siblings?
Did they travel to the US?

Where has the name Agen come from?  Was it on the daughter's immigration record/shipping list?  When does she first appear in the US?

ETA
When searching for ancestors in Ireland it is essential to know the religion. What religion was Annie?

From other thread which I linked in reply #1-

Marriage of William Park & Annie Golden in 1871 (which took place in a Catholic church) gives names of her parents-

Haven't seen her parents in the US yet, but haven't looked hard either.

No Agen on Griffith's either

searching for anywhere in Ireland where the surnames Steen and Eagan are found together on Griffith's Valuation - the only place is Shankill Parish, Belfast

for Steen
County         Civil parish   Households
Belfast city   Shankill   15

for Eagan
County   Civil parish   Households
Belfast city   Shankill   1

-----
the only Eagan I found was Hugh Eagan on Hopeton Street, Shankill Parish, St Ann's Ward, renting a house and yard.

Griffith's Valuation was taken in Antrim in 1861-1862

a possible emigration date.
arriving October 2 1855, NYC, on the Isaac Hughs from Liverpool
Ann Agen, 25, spinster, born in Ireland
I couldn't read the exact date of arrival, but it looks like about October 2, 1855 from the pages before and after this ship.
she is on image 152 of the manifest:

-------------
if it's her, she didn't arrive with her parents. But - she didn't have an occupation either, which might tell you something about her family's economic status.
