We've had torrential rain every day for the past few days but one of our reservoirs has had to be drained because of the state of the dam wall.

Older daughter off to Cambridge today for summer school.  I have been a nervous wreck as she had to change trains in London without me to direct her.

Your daughter will  be fine, we don't give our youngsters enough credit

My grandaughter got involved in a charity at 18 and travelled to Kenya on her own , was  beside myself with worry, she lived at first with the masai helping  in  a school, she then moved onto a nursery school where the children were very young, she came back after a month, the  following year to went to a similar country to help with irrigation, all paid by her or with family help

So  pharmaT, she will be  fine, no doubt she has  a mobile phone

Pharma I bet your daughter was proud of her acheivement crossing London alone .

I went to a school exchange in France age 16 and  missed the connection luckily was with other students and we made it into an adventure and worked out how to get next train .

Today is sunny but cool for now . Making an early start  will collect honey in their combs today .

We must be getting something right! Every cat we've had over all our years here together, ex-male and ex-female has more or less insisted on coming in from the back garden to use their litter tray! We have taught most of them how to do it, except the last pair came already fully trained.
If they ar trapped outside, according to my neighbour, they "go" in a tiny protected corner of a raised bed near the greenhouse, and look round very furtively. He's right, the evidence ha been there, and only there. We never find cat poo anywhere else in the garden, and neither neighbour seems to have seen any or any disturbance to plants or beds.

Yes, all well here thanks Caroline. Good to hear you're getting out and about, must have been fantastic seeing the old planes and such a wonderful display.

PharmaT, no doubt your daughter has arrived safely, probably didn't think anything of it. My first lone adventure was when I was nineteen, I travelled home from Paris on my own. It was by train, ferry, train in England then coach home from London. I can't recall being worried about it.

Do you have a hosepipe ban Jeff? No restrictions around here.

Well done on becoming a techie Brigid!

The pic was why I was asking, I didn't know how far down the level would have to be for a ban to be imposed.

Had a nice few days with my daughters in the Niagara Region.  Coffee with a friend yesterday and I am back at the Family History Centre to volunteer on Thursday.
I made a long solo trip when I was 18 too, by train from my hometown in Quebec to my brother's place in Ontario, took about 9 hours.  The only thing I was worried about was changing trains in Toronto, but it went smoothly.  I remember seeing a segment of a TV show being filmed at the Toronto train station and then seeing it on television months later, I had no idea what show they were doing, but I recognized the setting and actors.
