I agree with you,   no doubt Pharma T ' daughter is having a good time, I have worried  about my grandaughter on her travels when there has been no contact,  sometimes it is because there is no good connections or that  she is just plain busy having a good time, they don't mean to forget to contact you, it is just how it happens, she is in safe hands

Ah Viktoria, all becomes clear! I probably wouldn't have been so quick to dismiss it as a scam if I'd known that, although I must admit I'm always suspicious of unexpected messages.

That was exactly the accent !Just like Geraldine McEwan .
The school was in a tough area of North Manchester ,I had worked in such a school in Haslingden ,it was wonderful ,such laughs .
That was the one where we took ten children with four adults  to - as they were told Blackpool - but in reality St.Anne’s on Sea.
Walking along the promenade Andrew said “ Where is the tower, ?”
Anthony pointed to a sign ,” Look ,it is up here ,that sign says
C  A  T = tower !” It actually said  “ TOILETS”
That level of supervision was necessary , my daughter came along as an extra as she had her life saving swimming badge ,just in case!
But the children were lovely ,Andrew was my little thatched cottage, it was the way his lovely thick hair grew, like the thatch over the windows of
cottages.
Whoever though to mix those two groups of children with such different needs needed help themselves.

Viktoria.

Talking of journeys by yourself….

I must have been 11/12 yrs old and flying back to UK from Benghazi airport after Christmas with my parents in Tobruk…. We’ll I was firstly sat next to a large gentleman who during the flight had copious amounts to drink and was leaning all over me, finally a stewardess came and asked if I’d like to move.. of course my answer was yes as I was beginning to get a little scared… I have vivid memories of this flight.. early 1960’s it was..
We were due to land at Heathrow but it was fogbound… the flight was diverted to Prestwick in Scotland, one we arrived there it was then on a train back down to London… I don’t remember being assisted by any adults…
On arrival in London the following morning I was met by my guardian and a taxi to Paddington Station where with my school trunk, which she’d brought with her, I was put on another train to Taunton, finally a coach to my boarding school… arriving in the early evening to be information that supper was over and would I like a sandwich…. 😳😳. I’d not had a change of clothes, a wash or a hot meal ( apart from the aircraft meal) since leaving Benghazi…. Don’t think you’d get away with that these days!
It’s a journey that always stuck in my mind …

It’s been interesting reading others experiences at young ages!

I’m sure your daughter is having a wonderful time PharmaT a did a real credit to you.

That man on the flight sounds horrible Caroline, glad there was a seat to move to.

job adverts for jobs that have already been allocated to someone are one of my pet hates.  They keep telling me that they have to do it because it's the rules to make it more fair.  What is fair about spending hours on an application process that you have zero chance of even being considered?  That time could have been spent on an application that you actually had a chance of them considering your application.

My brother and I  travelled from  Westbourne Park Paddington to Southend to see our aunt at Rochford, we were quite young, can't put an age on it to be honest but I wouldn't dream of letting a child do that now, one vivid memory on the return to Fenchurch St   the train driver let my brother into the engine compartment to see how it worked, no doubt my brother might have lifted a shoved full of coal

The 17 year-old boy who flew around the world (including landing on an uninhabited island) puts our youthful journeys in the shade. As if that's not enough, his 19 year-old sister did the same.

I've been to job interviews which were a waste of time, including the one which necessitated an overnight stay in Liverpool.

It shouldn't be allowed.  if they're determined to give the job to someone they know they should just do it.  A bit annoying but not as bad as spending time and money on something for no reason.
