Ancestry and 1939 register
« on: Monday 05 September 22 12:16 BST (UK) »
Is it possible to see 1939 register on Ancestry?
if it is, how do I find it?
Have come back to family history after a break and find Ancestry challenging.
Thank you

Don't think so.  I think it is only available on FindMyPast, but I stand to be corrected by others more knowledgeable  :D

Yes, it is on Ancestry.  You will find it in the 'UK Census Collection' - there is a drop down menu and it’s the penultimate item (after the 1911 Census Wales Summary Books)

Just note: FindMyPast take updates frequently (monthly I believe), whereas Ancestry update once per year.

Don't rely on 1939 Register for Birth Dates when Searching as they are only 60% Correct in my Experience
Use the Free GRO Birth Index Search Facility for pre 1911 and freebmd for Births after 1911
Far more accurate than using Ancestry

I have an Ancestry account, but I sometimes go to our local public library to check the 1939 Register on Find My Past (the library has free access). It's irritating the Ancestry updates are less frequent!

Not sure what you mean by this, as those indexes only give you year and quarter of registration (not actual birth) while the 1939 register gives an exact date.  Of course that date may be inaccurate, but opposite the index the only error you might detect will be the year.  Most people can recall their birthday, but perhaps forget in which year it happened.  I'm sure I have found several of those.
