Thomas O. Brien Honara Feathrstone
« on: Tuesday 06 September 22 17:43 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I've found a death certificate for Mary Madden born about 1807. It references Roscommon and lists her parents as Thomas O. Brien and Honara Featherstone. A Facebook group member found a Featherstone in Muff, Fuerty on a flax list. Any help as to where to look I'm most grateful for.
thank you,
Geri

The first thing you need to do is try to narrow down where in Roscommon they could be from.

If Mary’s marriage certificate has fathers name on it, what is her fathers occupation listed as?

if either of her parents died after 1864 you may find a death certificate for them. There could also be burial records but if they were catholic the chances are slimmer.

Will have a look through parish records for O’Brian/Featherstone

When & where did Mary marry and die?
Have you found her on any census? What information did she give about her age and place of birth?

I appreciate your help. The only hard facts I have about Mary are that her daughter Catherine Madden was baptised Oct.16, 1824. The source is Athleague RC parish record. Another daughter Cecelia was baptised 6 May 1839 in Castlerea RC records as was son Thomas in 1836. There's a listing on an emigration record in 1851 with said daughter. There are census records of her living in New York City where the death record I found is located.
I will check the flax link.
Again thank you.

I can’t see Catherine’s baptism but you would think there would be more children between 1824 and 1836.

Here is Griffiths Valuation for Kilkeevin parish which will be later than your family - 1850s, I think.

This is an index and there is a bit more information at https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/roscommon/kilkeevin.htm

You can see there are these names in the parish.

Catherine's baptism, Athleague parish. Variant names: Athleague & Fuerty; Fuerty.

It's at the foot of the page, partly obscured. 1 sponsor seems to be a Madden. Can't read other sponsor's name.
A sponsor for one of their children baptised at Kilkeevin/ Castlerea was a Madden.
The little map on the parish page shows where parishes are in relation to each other.

If Mary's estimated birth year 1807 was roughly correct, Catherine might have been her 1st child.
Either the family moved around or Mary went home to her own family for Catherine's birth.
Do you know occupation of Mary's husband?
