Tanderagee and Roslea - Smyth, McGarvey, Hughes, Sheeran
« on: Tuesday 06 September 22 20:13 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to confirm some information about my great grand parents. I know they lived in Clones, Monaghan, so far I believe they are as follows:

Areas they appear to have lived in are: Roslea, Tanderagee, Gransha, Stonebridge

Michael Smyth (DOB circa 1870) marries Mary McGarvey (DOB circa 1875) circa 1903.

They have the following children confirmed by the 1911 irish census:
Margaret (Maggie) DOB 1904 abt.
Mary C. DOB 1905 abt. (possible twin with Margaret)
Elizabeth (Lizzie) DOB 1907 abt.
Joseph DOB 1909 abt.
Michael DOB 1912 abt.
Francis (Frank) DOB 1920 abt.
Bernard (Ben) - my grandfather born 1914 so won't appear on the 1911 census obviously.

I can find little information on any of the above other than my grandfather as I obviously known he moved the the UK and the history moving forwards. Any help anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)
This is a great site https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/. It is free but you have to prove you’re not a robot.  ;)

Here is the marriage in 1903

You can look for the children’s births on the site.

Nope....not twins.

Margaret born 12 February 1904.

Mary Catherine born 5 October 1905.

And not even  the so-called 'Irish twins'.

My mother & grandmother talked about Irish twins where the babies were born in the same year ie January and November say.

My sister is 13months younger and my mother said it seemed as though she was surrounded for ages by wall to wall nappies and crying or adventurous babies.   :)

Here is Mary in 1901 - in Tanderagee with her family
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Monaghan/Clones_Rural/Tanderagee/1631068/

On their marriage, Michael Smyth is a servant and his residence is Creevelea.
I have not yet found Michael or his family in 1901.

HI, I'm trying to understand some hand writing for Marriage certificate for my great grant father and mother Michael Smyth and Mary McGarvey.

Next to my g.grandfagther resisdence I think it says "Grewelea" as his location. MY g.grand mother is definately Tanderagee, Clones. If anyone could help interpret I would much appreciated.

Regards,

Justin Smyth.
