Look up help request for Alfred Herbert Fortt
« on: Friday 09 September 22 16:26 BST (UK) »
I am trying to see what I can find on my Great grandfather Alfred Herbert Fortt born  17 DEC 1870 -  9 AUG 1941
He was a life long military man, politician, business owner, etc in Somerset England. I have a ton of information on him as well as a bunch of military photos.
I was trying to fill in the gaps since I could only find some posting announcements that where in old Newspapers that my mom tracked tracked down.

what I found was ;

6 Mar 1895
Volunteer Battalion the Prince Albert's Somersetshire light infantry
Alfred Herbert Fortt, posted as 2nd Lieutenant
-------------------------------------
8 May 1896
Volunteer Battalion the Prince Albert's Somersetshire light infantry
A.H.Fortt posted as 2nd Lieutenant along side of a F.S.White
--------------------
4 Jun 1898
Volunteer Battalion the Prince Albert's Somersetshire light infantry
promoted to Captin
-------------------------------
23 June 1906
Volunteer Battalion the Prince Albert's Somersetshire light infantry
demoted to Lieutenant
-------------------------------
27 Sep 1911
Volunteer Battalion the Prince Albert's Somersetshire light infantry
resigned his position as Lietenant
--------------------------
26 Mar 1920
Somersetshire light infantry A.H. Fortt relinquishes his commission and is granted the honorary rank of Major

I was wondering what he did during WWI and trying to get a bit more information on his military career. (note he often went by A.H. Fortt)

Thanks for that
I know A.H. Fortt was a life long military man. I am rather certain he spent WW1 in England training the troops. Something he was involved in well before the war.
His factory Fortt`s Bath Oliver biscuits produced hundreds of thousands of biscuits which he donated to feed the troops abroad.
His factory was targeted in the blitz and hit with a 500 lbs bomb. That bomb destroyed the part of the back side of the building, yet due to the large size of the factory did not stop the food production.
