William E. Conway
« on: Thursday 22 September 22 09:59 BST (UK) »
I would like some help in finding out about my great grandfather and his family in Old Colwyn. I do know that the Conway family were very musical and most of the men were in the old Colwyn brass band. His father was very well liked and known for his work with helping slate quarrymen at the time, and he was also a member of the St. Catherine's church in Old Colwyn. But I would like to know more about William Conway. Thank you.
Father's surname-Smith,gran was Corden-Manchester/Nottingham. Mother's maiden name-Parry,family from Pentraeth,Anglesey. Great Great granparents were Charles and Mary Conlon-Ireland.Great grandfather  was William E. Conway-Old Colwyn.

Not sure if it is your William CONWAY, but a couple of mentions in newspapers of him, quarryman, of 6 Bryn Terrace, Old Colwyn in trouble for drunkeness in 1902

and obstructing police in 1906

Yes, this is the right man - same address and occupation in the 1901 census.

Somewhat sad story here about William's parents in 1899, neglecting a child (William's father John had a child with his wife's sister)

Sorry I modified my last post so you may not have seen the earlier article. Possibly more items to be found - Welsh Newspapers Online is a great resource (free), though I think it only goes up to 1919.  :)
