John Biddiss and Mary Askew
« on: Monday 26 September 22 05:09 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information on John Biddiss and Mary Askew. I only use the free sites.
What I know;
John Biddiss Married Mary Askew on the 23rd of April 1810 at Saint Giles, Camberwell, Surrey.
Children  John William b 5 March 1811 Southwark ch 14 April 1811 St George The Martyr, Southwark.
Thomas William b 14 Aug 1813 Southwark ch 24 Nov 1813 St George The Martyr, Southwark
               William John b 1814
James John b  9 Dec 1815 Southwark ch 19 Jan 1817 St George The Martyr, Southwark. Died 19 September 1886 St Saviour Southwark.
James John Biddiss is my children's direct line. (3x great grandfather)

Hoping I am on the right board as some records say Surrey and some London.

Perhaps Sylvia married Thomas Bayley 30 April 1815 St Leonard Shoreditch.

Don’t know if this is any connection but in 1786 an infant named Silvia Beddess was buried at Bridport, Dorset

Another possibility:
There is a baptism for a Silvey BETTESS 19 May 1793 Bristol
Parents William and Catherine

(The name William is important to John B of Camberwell in the naming of his children)

John's occupation is not surprising as his sons were Brush makers, whip makers and twine spinners.
Thank you for your help. I will follow up tomorrow as it's nearly 6.30 pm Monday night here in New Zealand.

Yes, I agree, it looks promising, but I could find no more baptisms in Bristol for the same couple.

We assume they came to London / Surrey at some point, because here are their burials.

Burial for Catharine BETTESS in Holy Trinity Clapham, Surrey
7 Dec 1829, age 79 (born abt 1750)
Abode: Lark hall Lane

There is a Burial for  a William BETTESS in Holy Trinity Clapham, Surrey
19 Dec 1832, age 84 (born abt 1748)
Abode: Lark hall Lane

(Lark Hall Lane comes up in the baptisms of Sylvie's children that you posted in reply #6)
