Beauclere William Henry Crozier
« on: Thursday 06 October 22 14:28 BST (UK) »
Beauclere William Henry Crozier (Bill) born Newtownbutler Fermanagh (Clones Union) 1910. Emirated to New Zealand via London Nov. 1948. From a prominent Feramanagh family with a history including the High Sherriff of Fermanagh, JPs, and very high ranking clergy. Anything on his schooling and occupation until his leaving Ireland would be great.

Hello BLENNERHASSETT

... you say ... "until leaving Ireland" ... and yet you have posted your request on the New Zealand board ??

I'm thinking that the information you seek, is more likely to be forthcoming from one of the Ireland RootsChat boards.

If you contact one of the Moderators here via the Personal messaging sytem, then they would be able to transfer your request to a suitable board.    :)

Hi again

Perhaps you may already have info about his time in New Zealand ?

The electoral rolls show that he lived in Palmerston North (North Island) from 1954 until his death in 1989, with occupations being "a floor sander" and in 1978 "a cleaner".

His headstone (and a photo) can be found at the findagrave.com site .... search on "Kelvin Grove cemetery + Palmerston North + New Zealand"

Welcome to Rootschat.

A Moderator will move your quest for assistance to the Irish board.

All the best, and feel free to come back to the friendly NZ board, if you would like assistance with any NZ research.

Alan.

PS 8/10/2022 Post edited to reflect the move.

Here's the Crozier family in 1911-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Fermanagh/Mullynagowan/Gortraw/513143/ (listed as Beauclerc)
Born Gortraw not Newtownbutler (listed as Beauclerk)-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1910/01569/1632822.pdf

Father John George Crozier died 1932, mother Jessie Florence (nee Staples) later-
Crozier John George of Gortra Newtownbutler county Fermanagh farmer died 29 November 1932 Probate Londonderry 21 June to Jessie Florence Crozier the widow. Effects £161 5s. 10d.A W/A D.B.N. D.R. 3.11.69

Their marriage lists Jessie's residence as Gortra-

Lots in Irish newspapers about the couple being found guilty of manslaughter- here's one example-
Newry Reporter, 19 Dec.1912: THE CROZIER TRIAL. PRISONERS FOUND GUILTY. SENTENCE DEFERRED. Yesterday the trial of John George Crozier, J.P., and his second wife, Jessie Florence Crozier, of Gortra House, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, on the charge of manslaughter of John Spencer ... [he was sentanced to 5 years penal servitude & she to 12 years]

Daughter Helen, aged 14 at the time, testified at the trail. Parents also accused of neglect of Helena and her younger brother George (they and the deceased John all children from 1st marriage). At the trial it was mentioned that Helena and George were in the County Hospital since brother John's death but someone, perhaps relatives?, must have been looking after the youngest children at this time.
Custody of Helena and George was given to their mother's sister, Mrs. Geraldine Helena Hayward of Hampstead, West London.
