Eleanor Dorrington, Nottinghamshire
« on: Monday 17 October 22 12:49 BST (UK) »
I have hit a brick wall in relation to Eleanor Dorrington. 1841-1871 census all suggest she was born about 1805 in Nottinghamshire but i have not been able to locate her birth, baptism, family members, etc.
The first 'evidence' i have relates to her marriage in 1826 in Essex. I can track her from 1841 owards to her death but nothing of her early years.
Searches for Dorrington brought up John Dorringto born c1811 but he & his family are still in Nottighamshire in 1851, searches also brought up several Darringtons - ??related but different spelling?
any guidance for locating Eleanor /Ellenor's birth / baptism or other Dorrington family members would be appreciated
Thank you

Here's a possible baptism for you, right sort of date:

1809 01 01 at Nottingham St Mary:    Ellenor; father Wm   DORRINGTON, mother Elizth.

I can't see any other baptisms for this couple, nor can I see a marriage -- perhaps they were incomers to the county?

Neither can I see a death or remarriage for Elizabeth, nor a death or marriage for Ellenor - so it's possible that they moved away. There's one possible death for William but I don't know how you'd show it was him, it could easily be a different person:

1816 08 06   William   DORRINGTON      Workhouse   Nottingham St Mary   Age illegible

Bradbury (Sedgeley, Bilston, Warrington)
Cooper (Sedgeley, Bilston)
Kilner/Kilmer (Leic, Notts)
Greenfield (Liverpool)
Holyland (Anywhere and everywhere, also Holiland Holliland Hollyland)
Pryce/Price (Welshpool, Liverpool)
Rawson (Leicester)
Upton (Desford, Leics)
Partrick (Vera and George, Leicester)
Marshall (Westmorland, Cheshire/Leicester)

Thank you so much & for responding so quickly. 1809 would fit, the census give varying dates from 1805-1811. Eleanor is in Essex by 1829 & is in surrey, east london & sussex before dying in Hove in 1871.
I can see entries for several William Dorrington's in the Essex area so maybe one of these will lead back to Eleanor. There is a William dying in Harlow in 1826 which is where Eleanor is married 3 years later...lots of investigating to do but hopefully a step nearer to finding some answers
Thanks again
Best wishes
Carole

Thank you. you are amazing again.

I have started to chart all The Dorringtons in Essex  & east London to see how they connect & hopefully also connect to my Eleanor, I have also found a John, born in Essex but later living in Nottingham - maybe a brother or cousin to Eleanor. it seems the Dorringtons also appear in courts fairly regularly! Eleanor herself is at the Old Bailey twice - thankfully as a witness rather than a convict. I think i will have many hours of Dorrington research ahead of me but hopefully will be able to remove some of the bricks in the wall - which i probably wouldn't have done without your help

Thank you
Very kind wishes
Carole
