Elizabeth Dickson
« on: Tuesday 01 November 22 18:40 GMT (UK) »
I’m wondering if anyone can help with the brick wall I’m finding myself at. I’m looking for information on my x2 great grandmother Elizabeth Dickson. All I know for certain is that she married her 1st husband James Houston on the 3 January 1865 in Lezayre before coming to Belfast and having 2 children. James passed away May 1870 and she married my x2 great grandfather Robert McBride Sept 1870z Her father is named as Edward Dickson on her first wedding certificate yet she’s using an alias of Graham and names a Samuel Graham as her father on her second naming her first child with Robert as Samuel Graham McBride on his birth certificate she puts her maiden as Dickson. I’m estimating her being born 1847 and think she was born in the Isle of Man but would love whatever information I can get on her as she’s a complete mystery

Welcome to Rootschat

Was Elizabeth still alive in 1901?  Did she remain in Ireland?

Did she marry Robert McBride as Elizabeth Graham or Elizabeth Houston?

Is she shown as a widow on the 1870 marriage cert

"coming to Belfast and having 2 children. James passed away May 1870 "

Can you confirm please -

Two children to Elizabeth and James HOUSTON, both children born in Belfast?

What names for these two children?

James HOUSTON died May 1870....in Belfast?

What children...names...birthplace....... do you have for children of Robert McBRIDE and Elizabeth?

James Houston died in Belfast, the 2 children to James were

Susan Houston born 1867 in Belfast and William Houston born 1869 in Belfast.

The children with Robert McBride were

Samuel Graham born 1873,
Elizabeth born 1875,
Mary Christina born 1879,
Robert born 1880,
Joseph born 1881,
Alfred born 1883,
Henry Cousins born 1885,
James Edward born 1886,
Annie Hall born 1889

I think all of the children to Robert McBride were born in Belfast though I could be wrong

Is the below who you think she may be in 1851 IOM census.

Piece:   2525
Folio:   373
Page number:   15
Household Members (Name)   Age   Relationship

Elizabeth Dixon36   Wife
Jane M K Dixon   7   Daughter  born England
Margaret Dixon5   Daughter
Elizabeth Dixon4   Daughter

Mary Piercen85

DIXON, JANE  MCKENZIE     mother's maiden name COWLEY
GRO Reference: 1844  M Quarter in WEST DERBY  Volume 20  Page 993

Whilst info is speculative at present Elizabeth (Catherine) Dixon can be found in 1901 Irish census with Jane who has married Gilbert Kirker.

Probably a "red herring", if so my apologies.

Re my question re 1901 census above.   If she was still alive in 1901 her birthplace will be on the 1901 entry.

There are a few Elizabeth McBride’s on the Irish 1901 but none have a birthplace of IoM.
