Joseph Elliot Hallatt b. c. 1799
« on: Friday 11 November 22 22:15 GMT (UK) »
In a census Joseph later said he was born 1799 Truro. Who were his parents? Was he born Joseph Elliot  or Joseph Hallatt? He had two sons one Joseph and one Thomas. Was he born in another county and raised in Truro? He married Rebecca Green in St. Just in Roseland 1828. His daughters were Rebecca Charlotte Mary and Elizabeth. Rebecca's mother was Elizabeth. That leaves the possible names of his mother as Mary or Charlotte. I did find a Mary Elliot who had two sons Joseph and Thomas but no husband.

Are you referring to the 1851 entry where he is transcribed as Hallett?  Daughter Elizabeth’s birth was registered as Hallatt

He died in 1853 just as Joseph Hallett (not Hallatt & no middle name)

Where did you get Elliot from?

I see that the transcription for the marriage on Cornwall OPC gives Joseph Elliot as his first and middle name and Hallett as his surname.
I can't see a baptism for a Joseph Hallet on Cornwall OPC but there is one for a Joseph Elliot 28 September 1798 in St Mary, Truro. His mother's name Mary and in one of the transcriber's notes it says Base child, born Sep 23, registered Sep 28. This record has been transcribed twice by two different people.

Well now I am more confused. Was his mother Mary Hallatt or Mary Elliot or did she use the names interchangeably? Or Were there two Marys in Truro St. Mary's about the same time with two sons Joseph and Thomas? Not only that it says Thomas' father is a tinman from Mylor named Williams??

she may have used both names. There's this parish settlement which seems to be the same Mary.

What does this document mean that she was a poor individual whom Truro provided for?

She may have tried to claim parish relief in St Clements but as she was not legally settled there, she was returned to Truro. Just over a boundary.
