Eleanor Havers
« on: Wednesday 23 November 22 17:29 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone out there has any records on what may have happened to her?  I can't seem to find a burial or a second marriage anywhere.
Her maiden name was Eleanor Mileham.  She married a William Havers at Kirby Cane church in Norfolk (by licence) on 17th Feb 1735,  (though I spose it would've been 1736 in today's calculations, as back then, 1736 didn't officially start till March 25th).
Both were born in Ellingham, Norfolk.
There was a child baptised in Ellingham (Elizabeth,  18th July,  1736), but only the father is named. (The original says  "Eliz the daughter of William and           Havers").
I suppose she could've emigrated,  or simply chose to go by a different name from thereon.

Do you have any other children born to the couple? Do you know when William died or if he remarried?

Doesn't help with finding Eleanor, but I note that at their marriage it says William was of Gillingham, and Eleanor was of Broom, both single.

The marriage of Eleanor to William Havers was by license, does it still exist, or the bond that was posted?

Found it on Findmypast

The men who guaranteed the bond are Jeremy Dory and Gregory Bellamy.

Witnesses are Mary Baker, Abraham Baker, and Samuel Baker.

I don't know how common the name was, but there is this death notice for William HAVERS in 1770

"A few days since died, at the seat of his nephew, Thomas Havers, Esq; in Norfolk, Mr. William Havers, many years an attorney in Coney-court, Gray's Inn."
Monday,  Dec. 17, 1770
Publication: Gazetteer and New Daily Advertiser

Modified to add:
There are a few legal notices from around 1737 which refer to William HAVERS in London.

Thankyou for taking the trouble to reply everybody.
Just to answer 'maddys' question .....   no, I cannot find any other children from this William and Eleanor.
And yes, the name is quite common, esp in Essex and East Anglia.
But there is no possible link between our branch and the wealthy Thelveton Hall Havers.  Shame!
I am currently working on a very slim chance trying to make this couple fit a William and "Mary" living in Westhall, Suffolk.  But why would she have changed her name to Mary?  It's not her mother's name.  Plus, she has a younger sister called Mary  (that later marries a Richard Hall).
Anyway, I think too many things do not fit quite for the two couples to be the same!!

Ok, thanks Paul. Will keep looking ...

I see there is a will for the William HAVERS who died 1770 and he leaves everything to his nephews and sister, so very unlikely to have had a wife and daughter.  ;) Well, at least we can cross that one off.

There's a marriage in Gillingham of a Samuel Townsend (singleman of Tost) and Elizabeth Havers (widow of Gillingham) on 3 Aug 1741 (FindMyPast has transcribed year as 1739, but if you check the image the transcriber has missed the year change). Could this be Eleanor and her forename has been muddled with that of the daughter?
Do you know what happened to the daughter?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott
