Yes Isabella is correct. Maybe a sister or half-sister.

I think this might be a possible record on the 1871 Census transcribed as Jeannie Gitman
On Ancestry  ???
Address 100.Orchard Street Partick Govan Lanarkshire
Robt Kennedy born Ireland 38 labourer
Margaret Kennedy born Ireland 32 wife
Son's George and Robert Kennedy
Jeannie Gitman born about 1857 Partick age 14 years domestic servant

If you check on Scotland's People you will find her as Jeanie Gilmour age 14 in Partick Govan ref number 643/3/9/20 matches with the Kennedy family

William Gilmour age 37 born Paisley about 1824 occupation Carter
Mary Gilmour age 28 born Glasgow
William Gilmour age 14 born Glasgow ( mason labourer )

Would say this is the same family

Jane Gilmour age 43 sister
Isabella 10 born Partick
Lilley Gilmour age 4 born Partick

I think you should maybe check this death for William Gilmour 1874 Partick.Govan age 53
To see what names are given for his wives  ..How sure are you on the mothers maiden name for Jane Gilmour .

I found a marriage for William Gilmour to a Mary Love 1861 Partick which also be worth viewing ..There was a daughter Isabella Park Gilmour born 1861 mothers maiden name
Love also another daughter Lilias love Gilmour born 1867 Partick she is in a inmate in a house of refuge in Maryhill 1881 Census  .She ends up in Canada as a home child their mother dies
1868 Partick age 31 ..There is also a death for a Elizabeth Gilmour 1859 Partick other name Marshall which I would check also

Thank you very much Rosie. I will do what I can to follow up on the information you posted. The information is very useful indeed.

Regarding Canada and Lilley - do you know where in Canada she went too and when she went there?

I checked the death for William in 1874. His wives are Christina McFarlane and Mary Love. Elizabeth McPherson (Jane's mother) is not mentioned which suggests to me Jane was probably born illegitimate.

You might want to check this birth on Scotland's People
Jane Gilmour
13 January 1857
Milton Lanarkshire
Father William Gilmour
Mother Elizabeth Marshall
Note the death for Elizabeth Gilmour 1859 Partick other name Marshall
Worth a check
