Samuel Rowland b. 1740-1750 Leighton Buzzard
« on: Tuesday 29 November 22 11:46 GMT (UK) »
Does anybody have access to baptism records covering this period to see if there is an entry for a
Samuel Rowland baptism, probably Leighton Buzzard please.

His age at burial in 1828 Heath & Reach, Bedfordshire gives an age of 87 years indicating a birth around 1741 but I can't spot a suitable baptism in any of the online records.

Any help appreciated,  Pheno

I am assuming that this is the Samuel Rowland who married Judith Staniford on 13th May 1771 in Soulbury, Buckinghamshire? The witnesses to this marriage were Frances Edwin and N Edwin.

This couple had the following children, all baptised in Leighton Buzzard:
- William (1773)
- Elizabeth Staniford (1777)
- Sarah (1779)
- Mary (1782)
- Manning (1784)
- Manning (1785)
- Staniford (1787)
- Hannah (1790)

Based on traditional naming customs, perhaps Samuel's father was William? I wonder where the name 'Manning' came from, as it is unusual and obviously holds some significance.

Cannot see any obvious baptism in Bedfordshire, although I am viewing transcriptions, not images.

Thanks for looking Queenie and for listing the baptisms for the correct couple.

Yes Mannin(g) is unusual isn't it and has come down the generations.  I assume it is probably a former female surname but haven't found it yet.

Thanks, Pheno
