Census 1841 lookup Chigwell Essex

Hi,

looking for George Windley (Winley) and his wife Hannah (nee Bradley) census 1841. According to census of 1851 (Chigwell) George was from Blackmore and Hannah from Chigwell. They were married 1830.
George born about 1801, Hannah about 1811. In 1851 they had 4 children: Mary (18), George (15), Sarah (12) and John (9).

So when were George and Hannah born? Where were they at the census of 1841? Were there any more children?
When did they die?

A lot of questions, and hopefully as many answers.

Hi Sue,
Thanks! I think it's them. Names and ages are a match. Except for George sr. He was 50 in 1841 and still 50 in 1851. Wishfull thinking? Could this be a slip of the pen back in 1841?

I'm not sure about the relationship of the Bradley-family and hannah.

Would you be so kind to find out where Hester Windley was at census 1851 (about 19 yrs old)? Maybe working as a servant?

Sorry I don't have access to the 1851 but may have found Hester/Esther in the 1861 and 1871

I think that the ennumerator has mis transcribed the places of birth for George and Esther. I also think that Hannah is the Hannah Windley who appears on the 1861 census with her granny also Hannah Windley.

What do you think.... a leap too far perhaps?

Hi Sue,
No, I think you're absolutely right! If the Hannah was with her granny in 1861, she must have been an ill. child. But why was her name Gould in 1871? Did George adopt her?
will have to find out now when Esther and George were married.

Hi,

I think that illegitimate children often just took on the married name of their mother with no formal adoption process. After all it is not illegal to take any name you wish.

I have certainly encountered this same situation several times in my own research.
