Elizabeth Oliver
« on: Friday 09 December 22 00:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to establish the birthplace and parents of Elizabeth Oliver b 1795, who married John Justham possibly in Devon. They may have Whitchurch connections and her mother may be Elizabeth Oliver too.
Any help would be great . Sorry I don't have more.

Thanks everyone . This is looking like the solution to a 20 year old brick wall. I had a DNA match come up on Ancestry linked to Elizabeth Justham (Oliver). My 4 X Gt Grandparents were Joseph Mellhuish and Elizabeth ? He was a soldier. Never could find the wife although I had found a marriage in Whitchurch of an Elizabeth Oliver and Joseph Mellhuish in 1797. With no further proof of a link, I put them aside. Low and behold, yesterday up popped Elizabeth Justham, half sister to my 3 X Gt grandmother (possibly), so I thought I'd ask on here . I just need to find where Elizabeth Oliver and Joseoh Mellhuish were born now. They would be born around 1776 I am guessing. Thanks again.

Good Morning
A child for Joseph Mellhuish and Elizabeth baptised at Whitchurch
Mary 27 May 1798 d of Joseph and Elizabeth  M belonging to the Forrest of Dartmoor.
Their marriage gave them both as sojourners.
I can see an Eliza baptised at St Charles Plymouth 28.4.1813
Daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Mellish Stone house a soldier. I presume is the couple you are looking for.

Looking at local couples for Elizabeth Oliver's parents she is not the daughter of Robert and Joan from Bere Ferrers as his Will has survived and his daughter Elizabeth married a Mr Cornish by 1804.

possible sightings of Joseph Melhuish at Devon archives
Joseph  apprenticed to Robert Strong of Gidleys for husbandry 1788 Alphington poor law
Joseph apprenticed to Richard Ebbles of Middle Coombe 1784 Colebrooke parish poor law

No, she was born in Margate, baptised in Whitchurch in 1798.

Baptism of Mary 1798 shows they were of the Forest of Dartmoor - a birth in Margate doesn't quite fit with this.
