Both parents have same surname - how to tell which is DNA link?
« on: Saturday 10 December 22 01:06 GMT (UK) »
As some of you may have noticed from my footnotes, I descend from the Sheridans of Moneydurtlow. The earliest mentions of the family are deeds in the 1790s, the tythe valuation in 1825, and then parish registers in the 1840s.

In addition, there was another Sheridan family in the immediately adjacent townland of Tombrackwood from the 1840s.  DNA testing of multiple descendants of both families shows a definite link.

Trouble is, we know from the parish registers that the earliest ancestors of the Tombrackwood  Sheridan family were both of that name. Is there any way to tell if the link lies with the father or mother?
