Bailey and Lockwood families
« on: Sunday 11 December 22 05:31 GMT (UK) »
I was hoping to find out some information (and pictures if they exist) of Matthew Bailey (my g g grandfather) b. 1875 and his wife Edith.

From stories I heard from my family he was a he was a Methodist and objector to the war, was refused benefits and was ostracized from most of his family.

He had 3 daughters, Harriet, Edith and Lillian with his wife Edith Lockwood 1877 - 1936.

His father, Edwin Bailey died in 1893 and his family was gifted a large, 15kg bible at his funeral which we still have in our possession.

Any information about the Bailey’s or Lockwood’s would be appreciated so I can learn more about the people who passed this bible down for generations.

Thank you

1910 Matthew Bailey was admitted to the workhouse - mentally deranged discharged 21 April 1910

1911 they are on parish relief.

Not allowed to give details of 1921, however they are living on New Radcliffe Street.

parents of Edith Lockwood are Joseph and Mary Ann nee Jones. They married 1859 Ashton Under Lyne

other children
Mary Jane 1860 reg. Ashton Under Lyne
Sally 1861
Joseph William 1863 (bap. 3 January 1864)
Hannah 1865
John Thomas 1867
Betty 1869
Bertha 1871
Elizabeth 1874
Ada 1876  registered Oldham *who is Eda on 1881 census and becomes Edith when she marries

Father Joseph died 1877 age 37 registered Oldham

Mary Ann is a widow 1881 census, 8 Bancroft Street Oldham

There is a son James E age 8 months (born 1880) listed but as Joseph had died he cannot be his father
In 1891 there is a son Elijah born 1882 same as above

ADDED

James Edward HALLETT 1880 reg. Oldham mothers maiden name Lockwood
Elijah HALLETT 1882 reg. Oldham mother's maiden name Jones

You would need the actual birth certificate or a baptism for these children to find out their parents.
Mary could have lived with a  ? Hallett and had 2 children with him, the first using her married name Lockwood, the second using her maiden name of Jones.
