George Findon Dec 1837 Birmingham
« on: Sunday 11 December 22 12:22 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with the marriage, if there is one, of George Findon to Jane.  the 1871 census has George and wife Jane, born in Devon,  in Derby Place, Birmingham along with George's children.  Samuel (not on 1871 census), Mary and George were born to his first wife Eliza Sharp, who presumably died between 1861 and 1871.  The other children are William 1863, Arthur 1864, Edwin 1866 and Ada Laura 1870 all born in Warwickshire with the mothers maiden name given as Ward (Find my Past).  I have been unable to find a marriage between George Findon and Jane Ward.  Any help much appreciated.

How old was Jane in 1871?  It could be she had been married before so not Jane Ward.

Equally they may never have married.  If you haven't found a death for Eliza they may simply have parted and he wasn't free to marry.

All I can see is from a family tree with George Findon married to:

Eliza SMART (BIRTH APRIL 1838 • Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, DEATH ABT 1865) married 10 Aug 1856, Edgbaston, St Bartholomew, Warwickshire, England and then

Jane DONALDSON (BIRTH ABT 1839 • Plymouth, Devon, England, DEATH APRIL 1879 • Warwickshire, England) married 3 Sep 1866, Saint Phillips, Birmingham, Warwick, England

Haven't found anything to back this up yet though.

ADD: Possible marriage of Jane DONALDSON to George FINDON

Quote:

Mary and George were born to his first wife Eliza Sharp, who presumably died between 1861 and 1871.

FINDON, GEORGE       mother's maiden name SMART

------------------------
FINDON, WILLIAM  HENRY     mother's maiden name WARD
GRO Reference: 1863  M Quarter in BIRMINGHAM  Volume 06D  Page 216

So Eliza if she died it was between 1861- probably 9 months before birth of son William Henry in 1863

The marriage of George Findon to Jane Donaldson in Sep 1866 is incorrect.  According to Freebmd Jane married James Findon

Hi
I had a look at the 1866 marriage for James Finedon and Jane Donaldson at st Phillips and they are both widowed and her father is a Thomas Bethell so not them.

George's first marriage 10.8.1856 to Eliza Smart at Edgbaston. The Vicar has a reputation for not asking questions and there are no father's given for either the bride of groom. It looks like his parents are George and Sarah and hers are Thomas and Mary.
There seems to be no death for Eliza 1861 and 1863 which may explain why George did not remarry to Jane Ward.
