William Young
« on: Sunday 11 December 22 13:24 GMT (UK) »
Hello again.
Please can anyone help me with a gentleman who married my grandma Mary Ann. Her birth name is Mary Ann Cooper. She apparently was married 3 time's. One of her husband's was William young. She was only married to him for a year. Around 1916.he sadly passed away 1917. They had no children.
But my grandmother Mary Ann had 3 son's and 2 daughters. Before and after William young.

What I'm trying to find is this

For W Young, his medal index card should say what theatre of war he initially deployed too.

I'm trying to find his medal index card.
If there's anything anymore can help me with to do with him.
I would be very grateful.
Just in case there's any confusion.
My grandma Mary Ann. Had a brother called William. He died in ww1.
Hopefully you might get a photo I've sent of his headstone.
I can't find anything else on him.

Please can I add. One of my brothers seems to think William young is my dad's father. But my half sister has told him. He's definitely not. As my dad was over 5 years old when his mum met William young.
I really hope you all can help me.
Thank you again for your help.
Kind regards.
Dorothy

Hello Dorothy,

William Young.  died WW1 1917
We would need to narrow down who William Young was in himself, before we have any chance of identifying him in any WW1 record/Index Cards. Do you know any more about him?

The best start is to have the timeline - sometimes there are identifying details on records that give clues to other records:
Mary Ann Cooper
Date & place  of birth
Names of parents
Marriage 1) details ( names, places, dates?) What happened to husband 1 - divorce? Death?
Marriage 2) details ( names, places, dates?)
Marriage 3) details ( names, places, dates?)

You can mention the names of the children Mary Ann had to each marriage - but only if they have since passed.

As to whether or not William Young is your Dad's father -  just because Dad was over 5 years old when his mother Mary Ann met  William Young , doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't be the the father. More unlikely, yes perhaps - but can't categorically say no. Also, when you say "met" , do you mean "married" or is there more to  a "met" story?"

( Have you  ever thought to do DNA, yourself and your siblings?  To try and works out some of the tangles in your tree  :) )

Cheers

Do you have the Marriage Cert for Mary Ann and her second husband William Young?
Any details on the father of William Young.

Consider starting a new post to find the army records of the brother William Cooper of Mary Ann.
To prevent confusion as both the men you are looking for are called William!

Dorothy - As far as I am aware, you already have the details for William Young -

3851 - L/Sergeant W Young - Manchester Regiment.
SWB no:  117554 - 14 August 1916

Married Mary Ann Cooper - 14 October 1916 - and he died 26 October 1917

His medal card says that he was awarded Victory, British and 15 Star medals, plus his silver war badge.  It also states that he was in the Balkans.  I believe you already have a copy of this.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hello everyone.
Thank you for your help.
William young was married to my grandma Mary Ann Cooper for a very short while. I do have the marriage certificate.  I don't know how or when my grandma Mary Ann 1st met William young. I only know that they got married and a year later William passed away. I don't know what the cause was. Maybe something to do with the war. Especially if he was sent home.

What I didn't know until one of my helpers mentioned.
That William had medals.
I knew my great uncles had them. But not until recently.

Please if there's is anything I've not answered let me know. If I can answer the questions I will gladly will. Especially if I know the answer.

Thank you all so very much for all your help.
It's really appreciated.

Kind regards
Dorothy

 Hello again.
I've been looking through my messages and I noticed that I can put the names of my grandma Mary Ann Cooper's children if they have passed away.
I'm not sure if her 2 daughters have passed away. She was married to a Mr sudden. Before she passed away herself. I think his name was Richard sudden.

My grandma Mary had 3 son's.  All now have passed away.

2 of the 3  the fathers name isn't known
The other one was.
My dad was Vincent cooper.he was born 27th September 1910.  Apparently Mary's parents brought my dad up as there own. But Mary lived with her parents. She then had another son in 1913 his father was known. I think she married him. But there's no marriage details. I know he was Mr Turner
I can't remember off hand the name of Mary's 2nd son. My mind has just gone blank.
Then apparently my grandma Mary moved back home to her parents taking her son with her. Then she had another son 1915. He was William Cooper.
His father's name isn't on a birth certificate.
Which has just given me a thought.
William Cooper who was born 1915.
What if his dad is actually William young.?  Mary my grandma. Married William young 1916. But he passed away a year later.   Or she could have named her son after her brother who was killed in the 1st war.
My half sister mentioned that Mary had taken her 2nd son with her when she married William young. But left her 1st and 3rd son with her parents.

I'm not sure how long after. But she remarried and married Mr sudden. As far as I know she only had 2 daughters to him.  I've not been able to find out if she had any other children to him.

I hope what I have mentioned is of any help.
I hope so.
Thank you all again for your help.
