finding William Henry Uren
« on: Friday 16 December 22 22:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am doing a friends family tree and have got stuck on the Uren family.
I have one census with William Henry Uren and his wife and son on, in 1911 (also have 1939 reg).
William Uren  head  27  married  Gas Fitter born in Northampton, Wellingborough
Lavinia Uren  wife    23  married                 born in London, Wood Green
Charles Uren  son    1                                born in London, Lambeth
their address is: 139 Leighton Road in St Pancras
the 1939 register says he was born on the 4th April 1884

I can't seem to find a William Henry Uren born in this year in Northampton or any on censuses in this area that could be him. I noticed that it was actually his wife, Lavinia, who signed the census on behalf of her husband, could she have got his birth place wrong? It seems strange to get wrong...

is there any way to find out who his parents were? Any help/advice is appreciated!  :)

Thank you all so much for your help! Just wondering ciderdrinker, how did you find the maiden name of Emma Yo(uren)? I was looking for a marriage but couldn't seem to find one, and can't find a birth/baptism for an Emma Merryweather in 1825 Bedfordshire (or 5 years either side of 1825)
thanks again,

Hello again
Yes that's the marriage Cas has found.
Emma Merryweather was baptised late at Southill
Emma Merriweather born 1824 bapt 16 Dec 1838 d of George and Ann Merriweather

1841 census Southill
George Merriweather 55 ag lab y
Ann 54 y
Emma 15 y
Elizabeth Merriweather 78 widow y
Elizabeth Wright 70 y

1851 just George born Southill aged 64 and Ann born Northill aged  65 in the same village.
1861 and George 75 ,granddaughter Ann 25 and grandson James 7

Siblings Mary bapt 18.7.1813 ,Sarah bapt 25.12.1815 and Hester 7.6.1818.So Emma was the youngest.
George baptised 11.2.1787 Southill s of Edward and Elizabeth Merriwethers.
He married Nanny Garner (a pet name for Ann) at Northill 25.12.1807
And there is a burial for him at Southill 3.2.1869 age 84.Ann died 31 Dec 1860 age 76.

George was in prison in 1807.
Bedfordshire Gaol Index
George Marryweather Southill age 19 5ft 10 1/2 inches brown hair and complexion Southill.
Offence Dog did destroy game .Committed by Samuel Whitbread Esquire 4.10.1807  3months
Discharged 15th Dec 1807 (Just in time for the wedding).Orderly conduct.

Samuel Whitbread was the local landlord and Big wig.
The village is quite small
Here is a map of 1882
https://maps.nls.uk/view/114482715

There is also a list of the house on the High St with photos
https://bedsarchives.bedford.gov.uk/CommunityHistories/Southill/55HighStreet.aspx

no 55 may have been the Merryweather's as JW Merryweather was there in 1927 but the census numbers don't correspond.

ps I think George Uren/Yourin is the son of William and  Mary
He and Samuel are together 1841 ag lab at Clay pit Farm Warden.
Samuel marries Lucy Woodcock at Old Warden 2 Sep 1848 and gives his father as William.
Christening at Old warden -Elizabeth 21.2.1819 d of William and Mary and William s of William and Mary Youren 7.10.1827
Obviously George's marriage certificate will give his father.
