John Gilbert Chichester Barracks
« on: Saturday 17 December 22 16:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I’ve found a potential ancestor, John Gilbert. Baptised daughter April 1816 in Chichester Sussex. Mother - Elizabeth. Noted as living at Chichester Barracks at the time in the 14th Regiment of foot 3rd battalion.
Does anyone know if I can find out John Gilbert’s Birth place and date? I’m not sure if he was from Sussex, apologies if I’ve posted in the wrong group. Tia.

Must be a coincidence, but there is a British Army Service Record for a John Gilbert, who served in the 14th Foot Regiment; 3rd Foot Guards. However, this John was born in Warrington, Lancashire in 1808, so is clearly too young to be your John.

Thank you! I did see this too, but also thought he is too young. He was specifically in the 14th foot regiment (3rd battalion)
Many thanks,

The baptism record I am looking at gives her baptism date as 29th May 1816? Although, it is only a transcription.
