Elizabeth Bond - where did she go?
« on: Wednesday 21 December 22 19:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, looking to find a death record for my 3rd great grandmother, Elizabeth Bond (nee Larkin).

She was born at 30 Clowes St in Salford, Lancashire on 26 Feb 1863. Parents are Patrick Larkin, an Irish Catholic immigrant (1838-1905) and Ann Hulmes, a Salford girl (1840-1915).

She married lamplighter John Bond in St Stephen's Church Salford 31 Dec 1883. They had five children before his death in 1895. She moved back to Clowes St in Salford after his death to be with her family.

She had an illegitimate daughter (my 2xggm) in 1896, Clowes St. In the 1901 Census she lives at no 25 Clowes St. By 1911 Census she has moved away to 8 Frederick St, Bloom St, Salford where she lives with her children, siblings and widowed mother Ann. (only her brother Patrick lives here in the 1921 Census).

I can't locate her after this point. I have tried the 1921 Census but couldn't find her previously. There was only one possible death record I have found for her, registered in Chorlton in 1920 (which would explain why she wasn't in the census), but FindAGrave has a picture of this Elizabeth Bond's gravestone, which names her mother as Alice Knowles who died in 1920 - so she can't be the Elizabeth Bond i'm looking for.

I haven't found any remarriage for her after 1911. Does she die, move away, remarry and change her name etc? I'm not sure. Any help locating her after 1911 would be appreciated!!

Is that her mother’s death in 1915? Who registered it? (Hoping that it might be Elizabeth).

Still waiting on the death cert! Hopefully it'll give me an address to cross-reference with the 1921 Census if it's Eliz who signs it, but Ann had a large family, so could be anyone.

And yes thank you garstonite I did have that info! (Lan-opc is a lifesaver for this lot). She did have one more illegitimate child baptised in 1881

Baptism: 27 Nov 1881 St Peter, Greengate, Salford, Lancashire, England
Josephus Larkin filius Elizabeth Larkin
Born: 9 Nov 1881
Abode: 14 Clowes Street
Godparents: Lydia Price
Baptised by: Eduardo O'Connell

I've looked through Clowes St manually in the 1921 Census and haven't found any obvious relatives yet. I assume she dies between 1911 and 1921 but simply can't find a death record if that's the case  :-\

Isn’t it odd.
I saw that death re Elizabeth Bond, Chorlton and as her daughter was in that area in 1921, I thought that would be right. However, it was the same on that you mentioned :)

There are quite a few burial records for
Elizabeth Bonds in the Manchester online Burial records search,
8 in total ,perhaps cross reference them with free BMD ,

example Manchester burials has Elizabeth Bond buried 2/6/1920 Southern Cemetery Unconsecrated ,buried with an Alice Knowles , grave 514, Lancashire BMD ,possibly have a death recorded Elizabeth Bond aged 63 years , Charlton on  Medlock Manchester 1920 this one you know isn't yours,

the other possible but doubtful as its consecrated ground is6/2/ 1936 Consecrated, Southern cemetery , her death is possibly Cheetham Manchester 1936 on Lancashire BMD aged 74
Gunning County Down,Kneale Isle of Man,Riddle Tynemouth,Bibby Kendal/Bradford,Colenso Penzance/Barrow-in-Furness,Steele Corney Fell,Chapman Ely,Dawes Alfreton,Blamire Westmoreland and Ulverston

I'll check out the Cheetham death in 1936 in a bit more detail - and forgive me, but what is the difference between unconsecrated and consecrated? I know that in theory it's religiously blessed ground versus general non-religiously blessed ground, but in official records does it have a more specific meaning? such as Catholic, Anglican etc. Most of my ancestors in Manchester were buried in unconsecrated ground even if they were religious, so I assume it might have something to do with money, as they were mostly very poor.

I got back her mum Ann Larkin's death cert, died 1 Aug 1915 at 8 Frederick Street, but the informant was her son Patrick, so no updates on Elizabeth from there.
