Herta Martha Hecht - Wittemburg, Germany
« on: Thursday 29 December 22 08:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello Rootschat people, this is my last hope in finding anything regarding my 2nd Grt Grandmother Herta Martha Hecht.  According to my opa, Herta was born 26 Oct 1905, Premslin, Wittemburg, Germany.  She married my 2nd great grandfather Johannes Gras, who was born in 1901 Altenhiem, Baden Wurttemburg.  Herta died in 1986, Osnabruck, Germany

I am struggling to find birth records for Herta and marriage certificate for them both.  I have tried speaking to my opa, though sadly his memory is fading and is limited on what he does remember.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  I am at the point of having to add "Dead End" on her, which i don't want to do.

Hi Dave, all i really have on Johannes Gras is that his father was also Johannes Gras and mother Karoline Schnizler.  My German ancestry is a bit of an enigma at the moment and still trying to navigate german records lol.

Thank you for looking!

Thank you for this!  The male that is getting christened is my opa.  I need to edit that Herta is my great grandmother not my 2nd great grandmother in my earlier post.  Its a start to actually have her full name!

Thank you for looking!

Re Johannes:
The set of Altenheim baptisms also contains the year 1901, but I could not see a baptism for Johannes (and yes I also checked some other years).

Re Herte
I'm not too worried about precise birth dates, but how sure are you re Herte's place/area of birth as it is quite a distance from Altenheim.

There is a tree on Ancestry that links to a baptism that mentions that Johannes was born in Balzholz on 16 Feb 1901 and baptised in Beuren (part of: Nürtingen, Schwarzwaldkreis, Württemberg). Parents are Johannes Gras and Karoline Magdalena Scheibel(?).

I can't be sure whether this is your guy as Beuren wasn't really next door to Altenheim ...

To be honest, im not entirely convinced of her birth place either.  As previously stated my Opa's memory is fading  barely remembers his past and gets flustered when asked.
