Hi Suzy

Sorry, haven't been able to find "likely" whereabouts of photo.

A "police mug-shot photo" would usually be recorded alongside the details of the person sought or arrested, in their Police Gazette entry/entries.   But the photo you seek was "supplied", so doesn't come under that category and there was nothing alongside of George's name in reference to an "official" photo - only that piece in 1906 about "the photo handed into Christchurch Police".

I know you will already have all the information available from PapersPast, but I did sift through the newspapers because sometimes in that era there may have been "artist's sketches" of people who appeared in court.   [ "Truth" paper in this instance, only gave a description of the girl. ]

I'm only guessing, but would think that actual Police paper records from that time, were probably not archived ??

So sorry, can understand your frustration with this ... and do hope that someone else might be able to offer more ideas.   :)

Thanks for your effort, live in hope.
I wonder if his photo was shared with the papers in Australia?
Might have a little look at Trove and see if anything there.

Hi Suzy W, and Happy New Year.

Link to the correct page mentioning George LYALL:

I suspect that the photo was never published, but I suggest that you try the NZ Police Museum in case they can help you.
