Rebecca Beacham burial, Naunton
« on: Wednesday 04 January 23 09:16 GMT (UK) »
I would much appreciate confirmation of the age of Rebecca Beacham who it seems was buried in Naunton in about 1835.

Using Ancestry and their C of E burials for Naunton, Gloucestershire plus a forename of Rebecca, there is no entry matching the surname.  There are only 5 burials in 1835 in that parish.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks for looking. I found this in someone’s tree. It’s sometimes easy to see something that looks glaringly wrong in a tree, but this looked plausible, since Naunton was certainly a place Rebecca Beacham was connected with.

I note on GENUKI there are 3 Naunton's in the County but Ancestry only appear to show one, however the only burial I can see in the County below but much later, distance from Bledington noted.

Rebecca Beacham   about 1826   21 Aug 1857   Bledington

Naunton (Stow) 8 miles - (Only a few burial years recorded at Stow on Ancestry).

Naunton (Winchcombe) 15 miles
(Up to 1835 records are Winchcombe but when you click on 1836 it shows Naunton burials then a gap to 1840)

Naunton (Cheltenham) 18 miles - (Too many parishes to check)

So maybe the abode is Naunton but not necessarily the church?

Colin

Thanks Colin. This might be her if she remarried as a widow. A Richard Beacham was buried in Naunton in 1790, so if he was her husband maybe she remarried in 1798. The Rebecca I’m trying to verify was baptised in 1751 so 1755 looks quite close. (The other Rebecca you found, in Bledington, is pretty certainly part of the right family.)

The 1798 marriage entry - 17 February - shows Rebecca as a widow, also John Fidoe as a widower.

Thanks BumbeB, for finding this. These records now look pretty promising.

BUT - if Rebecca married John Fidoe in 1798, then she couldn't have been buried with the surname of Beaucham, could she?

Naunton - 5 December 1835 - Rebecca Fidoe of Naunton, aged 80
