Castle Recognition
« on: Wednesday 04 January 23 16:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

Help needed to locate Castle on the dial of Long Case Clock. The clock was made in Tetbury by John Pitt prior to his death in 1859.

The painting might well be a Capriccio painting (Fantasy place).

Many thanks

Broadway Tower in the Cotswolds maybe, possibly Amberley Castle.

Both have the pair of towers, Amberley has more to it.

Is it on an island?  Or a peninsula?
It reminds me of Isola Di Loretto, but its towers are square.

The mountains in the top view might put it in Wales or Scotland - and is it on an island, or a promontory next to water? The 4 smaller views look as though they are of the same place, but it's all a bit small. Any chance of a larger picture of just the top view? And/or each of the smaller ones?

(Something strange has happened with the formatting of the image. The horizontal and vertical dimensions seem to have got swapped so it's distorted, but if you right click and view in a new tab the proportions are correct.)

Hopefully this is a better image. I thought it could be Kidwelly Castle but not sure.

If anything, I’d say the nearest is Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness but I suspect that it’s purely fictitious.
