Edwin Woodhouse Angelina Hamlin
« on: Wednesday 04 January 23 23:27 GMT (UK) »
I have been search re

WOODHOUSE: Edwin
and his wife
HAMLIN: Angelina Isabella Eade  (daughter of James Hamil and Isabella Smale)

I have the year of their marriage 1889 New Zealand.... I wonder if there is a Newspaper site similar to trove in Australia which may give the day and place...

I am also looking for the death of Edwin.... I can find him on the electoral roll on SS Wellington so he was probably a sailor??  a tree on line records his death in Australia 1907 in Penrith NSW but no records show up for an Edwin Woodhouse in this year...

Angelina is on the electoral roll next as a widow and then marries Percy Thomas in NZ 1908 which is all works....  Angelina and Percy are deceased in Suva, Fiji respectively...

Any help with Edwin would be much appreciated.

PapersPast is the NZ equivalent of trove
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

Though a very quick search for a marriage notice did not reveal one. I'll have another look.

Hello,

By narrowing the months down, I got the 29th Oct 1889 for the date of marriage.   The link below explains how you can narrow dates/months to get the date you want.  Unfortunately, I don't know the place, but if you purchase the Marriage Printout, it will be on there.

Have a play yourself and see, you can double check my findings.

Cheers

Here is a notice, though it doesn't give any information:

"Mr Woodhouse, chief steward of the s.s. Wellington, is about to get married"

You may also be interested in this item - Mr WOODHOUSE "popular steward" of the Iona was almost shot at by a drunken passenger in 1888. (about half way down the page)

Is this the same man on a different vessel?

Modified to add:
Though I see here he is called Edward WOODHOUSE.  :-\

Another mention of the marriage:

"The popular chief steward of the steamer Wellington, Mr Woodhouse, has gone on leave for three weeks, to marry and spend his honeymoon. He has our hearty congratulations and we wish him every happiness in life."
