« on: Saturday 14 January 23 08:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to work out where my GGG grandfather was livign at the time of his marriage in 1787. (marriage was in Denbury Devon, but he was a visiter to that parish.
i always thought it was South Tawton in Devon, but someone has suggested that this is South Avalon, which is in newfoundland.

any suggesting's would be great, thank you.

Other information.
GGG Grandparents married in Denbury, Devon, had all of there children in Denbury.  John was a mariner and sailed between Devon and St Johns Newfoundland.  GGG GRandmother was From ogwell Devon.

cheers

If you look back a couple of entries the same curate has written November with quite a decent N that is not the same as this one. And all the M’s in your entry are similarly formed.

But I am not sure if I can make it say Avalon

Perhaps a variation of South Tawton = South AWTON  :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I agree with BumbleB that it looks like Awton. The “w” is pretty similar to that in Mapowder, the curate’s name.
