Newspaper Article 1940-41
« on: Thursday 16 February 23 07:58 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone able to assist in finding this article in the newspapers on PapersPast please. No matter what combination of words I use it keeps coming up blank.

Grant Road and Park Street are in Wellington and so the paper would most likely be the Evening Post. There are no issues missing apart from the usual Easter, Anzac and Christmas ones.

Further in it mentions Frederick James Dorset who was 89 years of age. He was born May 1851 and died Jan 1941, so the article would be between May 1940 and Jan 1941. John, William and Arthur Dorset are mentioned by name as well, as well as Tom Clapham.

The Miss Dorset was Ada Caroline born 1863, so to have lived in the house for 77 years means it is 1940.

The cutting is from an old scrapbook, and unfortunately not very many of them are dated. Family Notices are easy to find but this one is proving difficult.

Thanks
Ian C

Hello

Remember that newspapers can be short listed, or identified, by the fonts that they used. A printer should be able to tell you if the font used, in the clipping of interest, was used by the assumed publisher, in the time period of interest. If of historic age, and one in the Papers Past library, just a general comparison may help.

It was by this method, I was able to locate the publisher and press date, of a significant snippet clipping, about our extended family history.

Alan.

PS Have no time to search now, but from a quick look both the Evening Post [Wellington] and the Press [Christchurch] which used similar fonts, carried press news of "Miss Dorset' up to, and including her obit, and vandals stripping the home shortly after her death.

Can only suggest that the article may have appeared in 'The Dominion' which has not been digitised for that period.
