NSW: Margaret BOYD
« on: Tuesday 28 February 23 15:35 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

At the start of 1870 several newspapers, including the Sydney Empire, carried the following:

£100 REWARD:   The Government, under the usual conditions, offer £100
reward for the discovery of the perpetrator or perpetrators of the murder
                of Margaret Boyd.

I have not been able to find any further information, neither relating to the crime nor the lady,
but wonder, against all probabilities, if she may have been the wife of Clement Abraham Wilson BOYD.
He married a Margaret SHEPHERD in Parramatta in November 1853, of whom sadly I have no details,
and in 1870 he remarried.

It is I agree very much a long shot!!!!

Thank you,

BAC3

Dydd gwyl dewi hapus to you on this, the first of March

No help in sorting out your problem but I see Clement and Margaret acquitted, at Parramatta Quarter Sessions, Feb 1854, of stealing.
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/60149756 of stealing

Further mentions for Clement;
Convicted: stealing a bag of sugar, May 1854 - he and Margaret had been tried for this earlier but apparently acquitted.  Interesting to see that he is labeled as an 'exile'.

Acquitted of stealing furniture, May 1859

And another snippet - probably no help

This Margaret would have been to young, the Margaret in post #1 married 1853. This one who drowned would have been born around 1849 give or take.

Maybe the one wivenhoe posted could be the correct one, no one seems to know her correct age so she may have been older again.

If Margaret Shepherd married Clement BOYD in 1853, and produced a child in 1855 then Margaret BOYCE is almost certainly the wrong person.  In 1853 Margaret Shepherd must have been at the very least 12 years old but unlikely to have been less than 15 or 16 so her DoB should be no later than 1841, and likely to be 1838 or earlier.  However, as already stated, the information re the drowned Margaret is sketchy.

It would seem more likely to me that this may be the death of Margaret BOYD nee Shepherd

From NSW BMD
1859 #4454 Registered Parramatta
Margaret BOYD, died Parramatta
father John

(This drills down to 17 or 18 July, 1859)

oops - amended, sorry wrong 2nd marriage date for Clement. This fits with Clement's remarriage in 1860 and the fact that many mentions of the couple are in Parramatta

Remarriage was 1870.

Im wondering if the 1870 marriage cert would have any information that could be useful. Maybe even if it's noted widower might help confirm the Margaret who died maybe was his wife??
OR the 1870 death cert. for Margaret if filled out correctly should have husbands name etc on it.
