Burial grounds Ruabon.
« on: Wednesday 08 March 23 19:09 GMT (UK) »
If you were Nonconformist in the 19th c in Rhosllanerchrugog/ Ruabon area where would you be buried.
I'm finding deaths but no entries in Parish registers.
I'm not having much luck with earlier burial grounds and not quite sure when Rhosllanerchrugog Cemetery opened.
Thanks

My Methodist families  in the area held a service either at the house or in the Chapel and were then buried in the Church yard. There are entries in the relevant parish records.

My grt grandfather has written in his diary about going to a service for his uncle in the Rhos area. I;ll see if he mentions where he was buried and get back to you.

The diary entry for Grt Grandfather's uncle's funeral reads:

Quote
Monday 24 September 1900
Went to Wrexham and Coedpoeth to bury Uncle Robert  Ellis.

No mention of a burial in the newspapers,  parish records or Freereg. Just the death cert and this entry.

I might have missed something in Welsh Newspapers Online  :-\

This would be Coedpoeth Cemetery.  The ones I cant find were much earlier,  some in the 1840s..🤔

I had a look on Old Maps and found a few graveyards dotted around,  probably belonging to Chapels,  but don't know which they were . This was in the 1870 ish maps.

If you go here

https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2246635/rhosllannerchrugog-cemetery

and scroll down, it lists  the following burial grounds, in addition to the cemetery adjacent to the St John's graveyard:

Saint John the Evangelist Churchyard

Mynydd Seion Welsh Independent Chapel

Ponciau, , Wrexham, Wales

Soar Scotch Baptist Chapel

Not sure how big they would be.

Clicking on them allows you to search for graves - like FindaGrave.

e.g a plan of Capel Mynydd Seion which seems to be behind and at the sides of the Chapel itself
