Wharrad family at Broad Oak, Redditch
« on: Tuesday 14 March 23 18:43 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any information or old pictures of the Wharrads and the house. My grandmother was Jessie Wharrad.  She gave birth to my uncle Bill at Broad Oak. Dr Dow lived there after the Wharrads

Welcome to Rootschat

What timescale are we looking at?

Was Wharrad her maiden or married name?

Are you sure she was just Jessie & not Winifred Jessie?  Did she marry Henry Hunt in 1935??

If so - the family was in Warwickshire in 1939

EDIT

They married in Alcester & were in Alcester in 1939 & their address was not Broad Oak.  We are not allowed to post details from the 1939 register that are only available via subscription.

They had a child in 1936 in Alcester & another in 1945 in Bromsgrove.  The names of possible living people are not allowed to be posted on Rootschat

There is no female Hunt birth in 1938 with a mothers maiden name of Wharrad

What is your mothers actual birthdate

"Jessie" was Winifred Jessie and married under those names & appears as Winifred J on the 1939 register

Yes. Granny was Winifred Jessie Wharrad. She had 3 children with my Grandad Henry Edgar Hunt. David, then Sally (my mum) then lastly William. They lived at Rollswood Farm near Haselor. So much history that I'm just starting to find!

Have you found her birth on freebmd   www.freebmd.org.uk

There is no birth for her name with a mothers maiden name of Wharrad on either freebmd or the full GRO index in either the March or June quarters 1938

Do you have her birth cert?

Hello
The electoral roll gives the family in Studley
1929- 1931 Green Lane
Lionel Alfred J Wharrad ,Carrie (her parents)and Jessie

Winifred Jessie birth reg Dec 1907 and she is with grandparents Alfred and Sarah born 1859 fish hook filer 1911 at 31 Marsden Road Ipsley Redditch. She seems to have a sister Ruby Gladys age 7.

There is a son David James Hunt 1936-2018 born at Alcester Dec qtr 1936.
The 1939 index has 2 entries blocked out under Henry and Winifred Jessie which would fit nicely.

As for Sally's birth registration no site of one in England or Wales but there is a possible at Kharagpur,All Saints, Bengal which is odd .No more details just says Sally Hunt baptised there 1938.

Winifred Jessie is with her parents again in 1921 in Redditch but not at Broad Oak Redditch Road .Lionel Alfred was born 1882 and Carrie Batson 1883.They married at Aston Mar qtr 1904.

Apparently Lionel Alfred Wharrad did die at Broad Oak 22 Oct 1944 according to the Probate Register .Admin to widow  Caroline and son Lionel Kenneth Wharrad £12664.
Which was a lot back then.He and Carrie were at that address 1939 but the rules say I can't give more.So they must have moved in 1931-1939.

Lionel Alfred Wharrad was abig roller going all over the world with his inventions and patents for Henry Millward and Sons who were in the wire trade. He set up his own company c 1912 LA Wharrad and Wharrad Engineering. His inventions were patented England,Canada,France,Germany,Switzerland and USA .
Carrie didn't die until 1975.
There is an online family tree on Ancestry which has loads of details and photos ,(though not of Jessie ).
You can get it for free in many Libraries
