William Douglas Ransome - Private 4th Hampshire Regiment
« on: Saturday 08 April 23 13:51 BST (UK) »
William Douglas Ransome was born on 29/12/1883 in Kilburn, London to Harriet and James Ransome. He is listed on his son's marriage certificate in 1953 as Private 4th Hampshire Regiment though have not been able to find anything to support this?

There is a baptism for :
Douglas William in 1917 with parents William Douglas, a Soldier, and Annie.

Is there more detail on the birth certificate?

He is a Painter on other children’s baptisms in 1913 and 1914.

Oh wow ! Where have you managed to find the baptism records? No the only information on the birth certificate is "Private 4th Hamps Regiment, Builders Painter" - on the other three children's birth certificates he is listed as a Painter / Decorator.

Hampshire baptisms - Ancestry
Baptised in Nutley parish
Does his 1916 marriage certificate give the same information?

Oh yes, I have found it now thanks! Nope on the marriage certificate, it states that he is a "trainee painter" with no mention of the military.

Hello! I am still trying to research William Douglas Ransome I have recently been given this photo of him I wondered if anyone knew what kind of clothing he was wearing and if they had any ideas of where I could find out about the Hampshire 4th Regiment - everywhere I am turning I am hitting brick wall after brick wall.
