Minor tidbit which I think is the same fellow:

Oxford Chronicle and Reading Gazette 26 September 1857

CHARLBURY
Appointment.-- Serjeant-Major William Jordan, from the 12th Regiment of Lancers, to Captain Whippy's D Troop Queen's Own Oxfordshire Yeomanry Cavalry, vice Henry Dillow, deceased.
Gosh, well found! I agree, it has to be him. I trawled through the British Newspaper Library site but found nothing. Not surprising, the scans and OCR software they used setting it up all those years ago are awful! Now I need to find his mother!
I am so grateful to those who have helped me on here. When my first wife died in 2013 just a month after my father, I lost the joy that is FH. Re-marrying has re-kindled it. I had forgotten so much and am enjoying learning all over again.
The major problem is that the grey matter is now also drawing its pension!
