From newspaper reports
May 1851
"The supernumerary companies of the 42nd Foot, on arrival from Bermuda are ordered to be landed at Aberdeen."

And in September 1851 42nd Foot are in North America, (56th Foot are in Bermuda)

Yes, the record at Fold3 matches tonepad’s find but has that one extra piece of information.

Looking at the others:

George Storey 1429 1st Foot - in Fermoy - he was born circa 1821 in Wymondham, Norfolk

George Storey 1223 2nd Foot - recorded in Clonmel per the musters BUT he is in the 1851 census in Levenshulme, Manchester. Born Macclesfield circa 1821

George Storey 849 16th Dragoons - in Hounslow - can't see him in the census. He's also in the 1841 musters in India. No other records found

George Storey 1957 63rd foot - "Ashton under Lyne and Limerick" - drummer and fifer - no other records found

Well thanks for that, I don't have ancestry, and have found Findmypast has very little info to start with, hence I haven't got that either.  The four  George Storey's that has been listed would not be the one I am looking for. I have noted them all. :)

Seen that the four listed have spelt there surname Storey All appear to be born in England,  and in 1851 his father spelt surname Story, and the name is now spelt Storrie, -manly because they are associated with Scotland, and in the newer generation.

If the one you are looking for is 42nd Foot here are their locations for the period...

  1840 Ionian Islands
  1843 Malta
1847 West Indies...which would indeed include Bermuda...
  1851 Canada
  1852 Scotland & England
  1854 Turkey
  1854 Sept Crimea (Highland Bde)
  1856 July England
  1857 Aug at sea
  1857 India
  1857 Sepoy rebellion
  1858 India
  1868 Scotland & England
  1873 Gold Coast
  1873 Ashanti war
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

thank you for finding all that out. Boy they got around. I don't think that I will ever find him in the UK, at that rate.
