St Paul's Parish Church, Greenwich - location query
« on: Tuesday 09 May 23 08:07 BST (UK) »
I have several relatives who, according to Parish records, were baptised or married at 'the Parish Church in the Parish of St Paul's, Greenwich' in the 1870s.

I'm keen to know where this Church is. Is this the St Paul's Church in Coffey Street, Deptford, which comes up in a Wikipedia entry?

I also have relatives who were baptised or married at 'St Alfege's Church in the Parish of Greenwich' in the late 1800s. Is this the same church as St Paul's? (A google search seems to return similar images!)

I'm not familiar with London at all and I am hoping this will be a straightforward query for someone on Rootschat.

Many thanks.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

St Alphege/Alfege is the ancient parish church of Greenwich.

St Paul's parish was created in 1864 and the church was built in Devonshire Drive (formerly Devonshire Road), Greenwich. The church was closed in 1984 and is now used by the Seventh Day Adventists.

St Paul's parish registers are catalogued by LMA (London Metropolitan Archives) under P78/PAU1. If you have copies of the parish registers, you should see this reference somewhere on the side of the page.
