Depends which accent you mean: Belfast is not very attractive.
And Cork is quite unintelligible to anyone who wasn't born and bred there.

The first wife, Helen Murray Ross (1888-1936), could be a daughter (birth registered in Hampstead 1888) of Donald Alexander MacBean Ross, manager of the London branch of the Commercial Bank of Scotland, and his wife Elizabeth Wilson née Ness.  Is there some way to find out, and perhaps when and where she married Dudley?

There is a wedding notice in The Scotsman on 2 September 1916:

Dudley married for a third time?

There is this marriage:

Dudley O Clarkson and Dorothy Clarkson
1st Qrt 1945
Chelmsford
Vol 4a pg 1461

Following his death on 20 Apr 1955, the probate index for him mentions a Dorothy Clarkson.

His entry www.findagrave.com/memorial/166288232/dudley-oswald-clarkson

Full inscription reads:

In loving memory of / EUGENE LIONEL CLARKSON / of Grays Farm, Chignal / Chelmsford / who died November 3. 1942 / aged 38 years / also DUDLEY OSWALD CLARKSON / who died April 20. 1955 / aged 64 years /

Many thanks, Monica.  So my conjecture was right, but it's good to have details.
Newspaper announcements are a useful source.

Yes, he was married a third time, I'm fairly sure to his brother's widow.

What a pity we don't have a FreeBMD or free GRO indexes for Scotland.
But of course it would be out of character for the Scots to give anything away.
If you're going to make potentially insulting remarks, it's a good idea to get your facts right.

The indexes to Scottish BMDs at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk are free of charge to view, right up to a couple of years ago.

Pity that GRONI won't even let you look at the BMD indexes after the cut-off dates for viewing certificates online. And that certificates you've paid for are not available indefinitely. And that they cost more than Scottish ones. And of course that they are far less informative.

Pity the English and Welsh GRO charges several times as much for certificates as Scotland's People does. And that the certificates are far less informative.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you, Forfarian.
I'll take a look at Scotlandspeople: I had thought it was available only on subscription.
