Found a baptism record for a Alice Ada Thorne..with parents as William Thorne and Emily..could this be Emily Ward?
Have applied for birth cert from GRO for Alice Ada

Glad we could all contribute. As an aside William & Emily married in 1868. The family are easily found in 1881/91.

The 1911 census records 4 children born, 3 alive, 1 died. Below is possibly the 1 child who was born & died,

I am still scratching around for birth record for Emily Ward 1859-1851..
Based on census 1881 age 30= 1851 ish...

According to marriage transcript of William Thorne to Emily Ward her father was named Walter.

She may have been slightly older than recorded on later census.

That birth date is obviously a mistake. However I think we are on the right track. In 1880 William Thorne and Emily had a son named Reginald Eastman Thorne, sadly died sq 1880 aged 0

 Mary 1831. Elizabeth 1833 Jane 1836  Margaret 1840 Ann 1848

No mention of  Emma, Frederick ,John or Walter as per your email

I note the ones in your post were born in the Barnstaple Union..basicly the workhouse!
The family must have hit hard times..
