Quite possibly Joseph and Elizabeth's marriage. His occupation matches what is indicated in his obituary, plus the Irish connection.

Looks like there could have been another son Richard Lambert DEAKER born 1873, who could be the Richard DEAKER who died in 1877 aged 5yrs.

Dunedin Cemetery records ... there are some errors in what is recorded on their webside .... and also in the Burial Register (Roman Catholic section) (@ancestry) for Southern Cemetery  :

Elizabeth DEAKER (mother of John Joseph or John Sherlock as he seems to have become ?) is in the Burial register and on the DCC website as >  Mary DEAKER :  The day of her death is given as 14 (March) on cemetery records > given as 13 (March) in death notice... and if date is deduced from NZBDM (online) listing, day of death is 15 March 1903.
And ... as added previously in this thread,  NZBDM (online) has  Elizabeth DEAKER  aged 19 (rather than 63 years in other records).

*    The man LESLIE (surname) - Joseph - d. 1907 - is of course Joseph DEAKER the father of John S., and the husband of Elizabeth DEAKER.

*    LESLIE (surname) - Julius - died March 1907 aged 5 months ...  is actually the infant son of Frances Adelaide and Arthur Patrick DEAKER :     
This child's birth name (1906) was > Leslie John DEAKER.   [Death notice at PapersPast]

*    DEAKER - Joseph - died 1898 - aged 26 years - was the son of Elizabeth and Joseph DEAKER.

There are some trees on Ancestry that have the John DEAKER who died at Naseby in Otago in 1888 as a brother of Joseph.

His wife was also Elizabeth.

Hi Ian ... yep, thought I saw that too.    And they had sons with similar christian names ??

Some of the ancestry trees [for Joseph] are also under the surname of D'ACRE  [spelled as DACRE without '  ]
