Dorset Family History Society’s Monthly Meeting
« on: Thursday 25 May 23 20:59 BST (UK) »
Dorset Family History Society will be hosting a talk on Tuesday 20th June 2023 at 7.30 p.m. by DON NUTT entitled ‘PIRATES, CASTAWAYS & CODFISH’.

Poole came to prominence in Georgian days particularly through its maritime history from 1580 to 1830, a dynamic and fascinating period in Poole's town and port history. From a questioning of how Poole Quay's alleys get their names, Don Nutt and the Rotary Club with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund, began a project which looked into Poole's growth from its origins as a wool port. Cod fishing, international trade, pirates, privateers and merchant venturers all form part of this fascinating story.

Don Nutt is a Poole Rotary Club member and local speaker who has been involved in several projects of interest to local historians.
