POTTos of Bilston, Willenhall and area.

POTTOs.

Can anyone add any further information, particularly census, residence or birth information concerning:

Edmund POTTO born around 1826 and died aged 77 in 1903 at Aston Workhouse. In 1873 he lived at 184 Oxford Street, Bilston and was a saddler.

Edmund was married to Sarah Ann Maxfield in 28th Dec. 1863 at St. Peters Church, West Bromwhich.

Edmund's children were:  Jane Elizabeth, Sarah Perrey, Louisa, Clara and Ellen. I have the particulars of all but no birth registration evidence for Jane Elizabeth born Oct. 8th. 1864.

Thomas (father of Edmund) was dead by 1863. Also a saddler.

Both Edmund and Thomas were reputedly connected with a large house in Willenhall - though that may be fable.

Any sources or other family links on either Edmund and Thomas POTTO much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Neill

Glad I could help. Unusual name isn't it? Do you know where it comes from?
It is tricky to find them in the censuses because they are either mistranscribed in the index or written as Potts in the first place >:(

:)  Again, extremely helpful information.  I can now begin to work out the families in the area and their relationships to each other.  I'm doing the research for my wife's 81 year old aunty, Jane Elizabeth Potto being her grandmother.  She knew they had a Willenhall connection 'the grand old man of Willenhall' - but it never went beyond that.  We don't have any derivation for the name POTTO.

I very much appreciate your assistance, and if any more POTTOs surface in this area I should be pleased to have them!!

Many thanks,

Neill.
