Help locating when relative migrated to Canada
« on: Wednesday 31 May 23 14:35 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather, Matthew Ernest Guest, emigrated to Canada in 1904 on the Sicillian aged19 . He then came back during WW1 where he was a motor boat mechanic at various places around the UK, He met and married Winifred Dunstan who was from Falmouth. They married in Southampton in 1918. Matthew is then listed on the imperial gratuities as returning to Canada on  SS Adriatic on March 1st 1919. I can't find him on this passenger list or Winfred on this list or any other going to Canada.
Would he have been with returning troops at this time so would she have travelled on another ship??
They then returned to England in Nov 1920 on the Empress of France with a child. He returned to Canada on his own in January 1921 whilst Winifred stayed in Falmouth.

Any help trying to find her records would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Not very legible but both Matthew and Winifred are on the Adriatic arriving Halifax. NS 9 March 1919. On Ancestry they are transcribed as Green. Ages are hard to read. He says he is a returning Canadian and been previously in Canada 1916. For Winnifred "with husband ret'd Canadian". Both are headed to Winnipeg. The Adriatic was half troop ship (returning Canadian troops) and half passenger.
Both Guests were passengers.

Library and Archives Canada has the manifest, but almost impossible to read. Ancestry was slightly clearer. It is slow to load, and they are on Page 12, line 6 and 7.

Thank you so much.  I was looking at the date he said he had arrived. Didn't think to check around other dates or errors on name.
Yes the ancestry one is clearer.
Thanks again  :-*
