Marriage between William Tillery and Jean Buntin
« on: Wednesday 07 June 23 21:25 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am researching William (Alexander) Tillery he was Bap 11 Jul 1772 Overhill, Belhelive, Aberdeen, and married Jean Buntin 29 Jul 1797 Riccarton, Ayrshire.  I can find no record of this marriage online.  Is it possible to confirm this info and where can I obtain a copy of this information?  Its my understanding William died 12 Apr 1853 Troon, Ayrshire. And they had 7 children one of which is my 2x great grandfather Robert Tillery 1813-1881
I would appreciate any information on this family, thanks in advance

Welcome to RootsChat :)

Either you're not looking in the right place, or you're using an inflexible spelling. The marriage record of William Tilleray and Jean Bunton in the parish of Riccarton in 1797 is in the church records at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.

Marriage records at that time are usually pretty uninformative. This is because the church recorded the fact of the proclamation of banns, and that there had been no objections, but didn't always bother to record the actual marriage ceremony. Also it is rare for the marriage record to provide any information about the couple's parents.

I've downloaded it for you.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

The ages on the 1851 census and the monumental inscription posted by Neale1961 are consistent and fit in with the following:

William Tillery married (or probably announced their intention to marry - you have to see the original record to know) "Agnas" Smith in Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire on 24th November 1768.

One of their children was William Tillery baptised 11th July 1772.
