Do you have their marriage certificate, available to purchase from Scotlands People
SLATER, HENRY
WILLIAMSON, CATHERINE
1862
232 / 24
PETERHEAD

Hi Rosie – thanks for the reply; my mother apparently has the original marriage certificate – it's being 'located' as we speak...

Is this the family you were looking at?

Hendry Slatter (as transcribed) 41 born Ireland
Catherine 35 born Old Nicholas Aberdeenshire
George 3 born Aberdeen
James P 8 months born Aberdeen

Thanks Milliepede  – that's them!

Thanks Colin – also very useful ... so it's looking like Henry S originated from Ireland – however he was remembered as being of Scots origin – maybe that's where the traveling link comes from !! ???

Quote
with a Nicholas and Mary resident in Liverpool some years later.

Do you have them on any census?

Thanks Milliepede; I've just found an Irish record of Baptism for Henry, listing mother and father as Nicholas Slater and Mary Hefferen, the age is about right ... Nicholas (and Mary) later turn up on a Liverpool business directory, and Nicholas on the electoral role in the same area – profession, shoemaker. This also rings true, however the location is somewhat off. I'm now wondering if Liverpool was first port of call for those traveling from/to Ireland? Maybe this again keys into the traveling / transient aspect of things? Unsure...

Liverpool was indeed a key port for travellers from Ireland.

Do let us know when the marriage certificate has been located and what it says in case we can help further.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos
