Cecilia Reynolds and Michael Cunnion
« on: Monday 17 July 23 22:17 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me with my enquiry. Michael Cunnion and Cecilia Reynolds were from Ireland, Cecilia was born about 1838, Leitrim, Mohall, Michael I am guessing was from the same area born 1837, I am trying to find their date of marriage, I have them with their family on the 1881 census, living in Edinburgh. I have searched the 1871 Scottish census, nothing is showing up, I am guessing they were still in Ireland. I have their children Robina born 1860, Ireland died 1902 in Edinburgh, Cecilia 1862, Ireland died 1938, Edinburgh, Michael 1865 Ireland, 1926, Edinburgh, James 1868, Ireland, John 1870, Ireland and Matilda 1873, Ireland died 1912.

Civil registration of births, deaths & Catholic marriages started in 1864. Here are births for the younger children (looks like years you had were estimated)-
1. Robina (1860 Ire.-1902 Edinburgh)
2. Cecilia (1862 Ire-1938 Edinburgh)
3. Michael (11 Apr.1865 Mohill-1926 Edinburgh)

5. John (1 Nov.1869 Mohill)

Found this snippet which may explain why the family removed to Scotland-
Weekly Examiner (Belfast), 26 Oct.1872: … Thursday, as to a conspiracy to shoot a gentleman landlord, the person arrested is Michael Cunnion, of Mohill, bailiff to Mr. Lawder, D.L., Carrick-on-Shannon. Cunnion was, on Thursday, fully committed to stand hos trial at the next Assizes, for writing a threatening letter to Mr. Ensor, J.P., of the County

Of the County Down and also employing a party to shoot that gentleman some twelve months ago. Cunnion was bailiff on Mr Ensor’s property in the parish of Cloone and was discharged when Mr Lawdor lost the agency.

Trying to find the trial against Michael
I can see Lawder brought a slander case against the police and a man named Henry King Flaherty was charged with perjury, that he swore on information against Michael claiming Michael had written a letter to John Bracken of Ennis asking him to shoot Mr Ensor.
Can’t find any other mention of Michael.

I get the impression they was to be more perjury cases but can’t find a mention of them, more serious cases making the reports.

Sounds like they were trying to stitch up Michael, maybe because he had been a bailiff.
