Esther Middleton née Irving, she is my paternal great grandmother.  Born in Maryport in 1871.  Died in Liverpool 1928 on 5th or 10th April.  Her husband was Robert Cartmer Middleton.  They married in 1901. Her son, my grandad Harold Middleton, was born in 1901.  Esther may also have had a previous marriage to HODGSON.  All of Robert and Esther’s daughters have the name DOUGLAS in their full birth name.  We don’t know why.  Can anyone help?  There is a Sarah (DOUGLAS) Irving born 1795 in Maryport, are they related.  Why is the DOUGLAS name significant?  Any help would be so appreciated.
(We know Esther had a thyroid condition and for some reason had her leg amputated.)  She also had a daughter in 1906, but there is o knowledge of Ethel Middleton.
Any assistance with the above would be received with relief and excitement.  Thank you :)

"Quote from opening post"

All of Robert and Esther’s daughters have the name DOUGLAS in their full birth name.  We don’t know why.

The 1911 census records that Robert & Esther only had 2 children ie Harold and Ethel. By 1921 Esther is with the 2 children no Robert present.

What daughters  are these?

John

Thank you for responses to my initial enquiry.  It was rather poignant. I am learning a lot and clearly have a lot of research ahead.  The ‘Douglas’ name in the Middleton’s girls names remains a mystery.

Poor John Irving, I have learnt his mother is Martha Irving with no detail of his father.
