Hazlemere in Wyton
« on: Monday 24 July 23 15:17 BST (UK) »
Hi
My great-aunt died at an address called Hazlemere in Wyton in 1928 - can anyone help with that please?

As it wasn't her usual address I am thinking that she was visiting family with her son but I cannot find any immediate family on her husband's side that are still living there, and it won't be her family as she was born Surrey.
Thanks
Helen

I can't see any references to a "Hazlemere" in Wyton or Houghton on maps or newspapers. It may be simply the name of a house. There is a "Ladymeere" Grade II listed house in Houghton

I'm assuming you have the death certificate. Does it have any further information that may be helpful in locating it?

Hi Maddy
Yes, I do have the certificate, but it just says "Hazlemere, Wyton" so I think you are correct in assuming that it is a house name, and unfortunately it is her son who lives with her in Leytonstone, Essex that is the informant, so no clues there!

Not in Wyton, but there is Haselmere Villas on Needingworth Rd, St Ives (about 3 miles away) - a possibility?

I've found the buidling on street view, with a plaque saying "Haslemere Villas", though I don't think it is the same as in the photo above. Possibly the confusion is because the photographer F DAVIS was at 3 Haslemere Villas, and that may be on the back of the post card. (I could well be wrong about that.) But in any case, the building does exist on Needingworth Rd, St Ives. Whether it is where the death occurred, I'm not sure.
